August 10, 2016 9 AM Update

Good morning! Definitely a wet day.Β Rain and 72 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 7 mph. The dew point is 64 degrees. 0.46 inches of rain is expected before it ends tomorrow around 3 am. A pretty good soaker, I wouldn’t be surprised if we exceed the predictions by a bit.

I think I left my rain coat either in my truck or my parents house. It wasn’t too bad walking down to the close bus stop with my umbrella and a barn coat. Because I normally lose my umbrella or just wear my rain coat on the few rainy days we have, it’s the first time I have used it ever. Β I should locate my rain coat, although I don’t think we will have significant additional rains before the weekend.

Today will have showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Cloudy, with a high of 83 degrees at 4pm. Two degrees above normal. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Maximum dew point of 71 at 2pm. The record high of 96 was set in 1949. The sun will set at 8:02 pm with dusk around 8:33 pm, which is 1 minutes and 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 14 hours and 4 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 2 minutes and 27 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 9pm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 72 degrees at 4am. 10 degrees above normal. Southwest wind 5 to 9 mph becoming light south after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 71 at 6pm. The record low of 46 occurred back in 1941.

Don’t expect much sun over the next few days.Β
Wednesday – Cloudy from 8 am to 3 pm. Mostly cloudy from 3 pm to 9 pm.
Friday – Mostly cloudy from 6 am to midnight.
Saturday – Mostly cloudy from midnight to midnight.
Sunday – Mostly cloudy from midnight to midnight.
Monday – Mostly cloudy from midnight to 4 pm.

Do expect significant rain that should help get us out of the drought.Β
Today 8 am to 2 pm – rain and chance of thunderstorms – 0.24 inches expected
Today 2 to 9 pm – chance of rain and thunderstorms – 0.21 inches expected
Today 9 pm to Thu. 4 am – slight chance of rain and thunderstorms
Tomorrow 1 to 8 pm – slight chance of rain and thunderstorms
Tomorrow 8 pm to Sat. 8 am – chance of rain and thunderstorms – 0.43 inches expected
Saturday 8 am to Sun. 2 am – rain and thunderstorms – 0.64 inches expected
Sunday 2 am to 2 pm – chance of rain and thunderstorms – 0.07 inches expected
Sunday 2 to 8 pm – rain and thunderstorms
Sunday 8 pm to Mon. 2 am – chance of rain and thunderstorms
Monday 2 to 8 am – rain and thunderstorms
Monday 8 am to Tue. 8 pm – chance of rain and thunderstorms

The rain and clouds should make the otherwise quite stifling heat and humidity somewhat bearable.Β

Muggy periods:
Today 9 am to Tue. 12 am – Max Temp: 91, Heat Index: 99, Dew Point: 75
Tuesday 6 to 11 am – Max Temp: 75, Heat Index: 75, Dew Point: 65

There are 1 week until Thrift Shop Day when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:22 pm. The average high temperature is 81 degrees, with a record high of 97 in 1913.

Today in 1954 was the groundbreaking ceremony for theΒ Saint Lawrence Seaway. Once completed, tall ships that one were limited to the Great Lakes could travel to the ocean. It would serve as a major bypass to the Erie Canal and hasten the decline of Upstate NY as commerce stopped flowing through the state. Albany and Buffalo would continue to have mostly empty grain silos in their skylines, a remnant of when mid-western grain was shipped over the Erie Canal.

I was looking at this week’s Dicks Sporting Goods special.Β The Remington 783 deer rifle that is one sale caught my eye.Β I don’t know if I will buy, but it’s a good price, and I was looking at getting one for the fall. I want to check out the new Dicks/Field and Stream Store in Latham this week, and I might buy the gun or some other hunting gear. I also need to get my hunting and trapping license this year.

This weekend looks not to be a wash out but pretty gray with a lot of humidity.Β But the clouds and rain should make it moreΒ bearable.Β Sometimes it’s better to stay in town.
