July 27, 2016 10 PM Update

Gond evening! Mostly clear and 72 degrees in Burdett. Calm wind. The dew point is 60 degrees. Back at Foster Pond looking at the stars on my final night at the Finger Lakes National Forest. I was going to do some fishing but it got late, and decided to just sit down by the lake on my back. Even at ten pm, it’s really not that dark in the west for looking at the stars. In a little bit, I’ll wander back to camp and start a small fire and stay up for a while before retiring for the night.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low of 67 degrees at 5am. Three degrees above normal. Light and variable wind becoming northwest around 5 mph after midnight. Maximum dew point of 60 at 10pm. The Full β€œStrugeon” Moon is on Thursday, August 18th.

It was a fun day, swimming at Robert H Treman State Park then going to Watkins Glen for ice cream and swimming in the Watkins Glen pool. I stopped at the Watkins Glen library and checked my email and did some work on my laptop. Cooked some bratwurst for dinner.

I will miss the Finger Lakes but it’s time to move on. Plan to visit Allegany State Park and Quaker Lake for some swimming and possibly Erie PA and Presque Isle State Park on Saturday. We’ll see.

July 27, 2016 3 PM Update

Good afternoon! Sunny and 90 degrees in Ithaca. There is a west-northwest breeze at 6 mph. The dew point is 59 degrees. Today on the nice weather scale is a ten out of ten.  Warm but not much humidity at all!

I had a good couple of hours at Robert H. Treman State Park Swimming Area, but my feet a sore  from walking on the shale. Yeah, I’m weak. Swam a few times to the falls and felt the warmth of the falling water. Once the swimming area had to be evacuated as some kid jumped off the diving board who didn’t know how to swim.

Heading back to Watkins Glen to hit up the Glen Dairy Bar, get some good ice cream, then Watkins Glen pool. Will stop by the library to check the Internet and get the latest podcasts at seven. Also want to get some orange juice for the morning.

Quick breakfast tomorrow then tear down camp, swim at Watkins Glen then Pennsylvania and Allegheny National Forest.

A few fair weather clouds. There is a southwest breeze at 6 mph. The dew point is 63 degrees. A bit more humid then we expected this morning but certainly not oppressive. Yes, I’m going to soon find out how truly frigid the swimming area in Enfield Glen. At least it’s pretty and something one must visit at least once a year.

Plan to spend my evening at Foster Pond doing some fishing and looking at the starts well into the night. Should be another delightful summer night. They really don’t make them much nicer.
