On this day in 1925, Dayton, Tennessee high school biology teacher John T. Scopes is found guilty of teaching evolution in class and fined $100. Darn criminals ruining our country. The judge incorrectly set the fine, rather then letting the jury do it, so his conviction was overturned on appeal. The law would remain on the books until it was repealed 1967. Also in 1983, the world’s lowest temperature in an inhabited location is recorded at Vostok Station, Antarctica at βˆ’89.2 Β°C (βˆ’128.6 Β°F). They should build a pipe and send it up north to cool off people efficently.

There are 5 weeks until State Fair Opens when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. The average high temperature is 79 degrees, with a record high of 99 in 1947.

Yesterday was a long day but I got to see some beautiful country. I am not sure if I will though take US 20 out to the Finger Lakes, as it seems like an awful long trip that way. I’ll have to think about it some more. I really hate NY 76 to Ithaca. It’s always so congested and hilly, therefore not fun to drive. Montezuma probably ain’t that great in mid-summer. Β Maybe there is US 20 to NY 13 to Ithaca. Or some other route. That said, I want to go efficiently, as it’s a long drive no matter how I go.
