Got my eye examination today, nothing has changed. I got another pair of glasses and contacts for a year. I have to order the second year  of contacts by next June. I’ll just get them online . Washed my truck. Organized the gear in the truck.

Tomorrow they preform the air conditioning check and change the transmission fluid and transfer case fluid as part of the recommended maintance under the severe service schedule. I spent enough time on dirt roads and climbing mountains that’s it’s worthwhile to do. Maybe it’s a waste of money but I’d rather maximize the life of my truck. Put too much into it already. At any rate, I’ll stay plenty cool once the air conditioning is fully charged.

In October I’ll have the tires rotated and if I’m lazy, leave the oil change to the professionals, and I guess do the inspection. Maybe have the wheels aligned too in October to maximize tire life. We will see.
This weekend still looks good for camping and swimming in Schoharie although I guess that could change based on my work schedule. But that’s fine vacation is only a week away.

I got the new Bluetooth Speaker. It’s about what I expected but I wish it was a bit louder – it’s probably about as loud as my littler one. It is waterproof, rubber coated, and seems quite durable and scratch resistant for camping. The other one has gotten quite beat up in the woods.  15 hour battery life should keep it going for a while at camp without having to plug it into the truck. I has a microphone and can be used for calling. Hopefully it will serve me well. I’ll keep this one by my bed and put the other one in the kitchen and switch between them when making breakfast so I can catch the news over the radio in the kitchen.

Oh well. I want to get to bed so I can drop Big Red off at the shop early in the morning before a long day at work…

July 13, 2016 Evening

Good afternoon! Partly cloudy and 87 degrees in Albany, NY. There is a south breeze at 15 mph. The dew point is 70 degrees. The heat index is 94. The breeze makes it feel much cooler in the city then the mercury would suggest. Some of the expansion joints on the 787 are  stretched out from the heat, making for a slightly rougher ride then normal.

Off to my eye doctor’s appointment this afternoon… Traffic is much lighter today at 4 pm then it normally is at 5 pm. Hopefully it will get me home in plenty of time for my 5:15 appointment.

The rest of this  afternoon will have isolated showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high of 88 degrees at 5pm. Seven degrees above normal. South wind around 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 70 at 4pm. The record high of 99 was set in 1995. The sun will set at 8:31 pm with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. Waxing Gibbous Moon tonight with 60% illuminated. The moon will set around 3:18 am. The Full β€œBuck” Moon is next Tuesday.

Tonight will have more  scattered showers and thunderstorms before midnight, then isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low of 71 degrees at 5am. Nine degrees above normal. South wind 7 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Maximum dew point of 70 at 6pm. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1940.

A nice weekend coming up with seasonable temperatures. Saturday, partly sunny, with a high near 83. Maximum dew point of 65 at 7am. Sunday, mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Maximum dew point of 62 at 8am. Typical average high for the weekend is 83 degrees. Really not bad at all.

In four weeks on August 10 the sun will be setting at 8:02 pm, which is 29 minutes earlier then today. The average high is 81 degrees, and the record for that date is 96 degrees was set back in 1949.

After my eye appointment, I’m off to Glenmont to wash my truck and gas it up. I hope to get it ready for vacation which with these hot and sunny days, can’t happen soon enough. Probably the last week of July will end up being frigid. We will see.

July 13, 2016 8 AM Update

While it’s still fairly nice out this morning, you can definitely feel it warming up. Mostly sunny and 73 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 6 mph. The dew point is 66 degrees.

Hot and sticky day on tap. We will have isolated showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high of 90 degrees at 3pm. Seven degrees above normal. South wind 6 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 69 at 4pm. The record high of 96 was set in 1894. We may come close to breaking a 120 year old record today. The sun will set at 8:31 pm with dusk around 9:05 pm, which is 36 seconds earlier than yesterday. Going to be a muggy night. The record low of 49 occurred back in 1940.

0.6 inch of rain expected between Wednesday 2pm and Friday 7am. Within the next four days, a total of 0.6 inches of rain is expected, mostly from thunderstorms.

Starting now, we have some really muggy weather. Wednesday 8am – Friday 2pm. Maximum temperature will be 90 degrees, a heat index reaching 96, and a maximum dew point of 73. Friday 8pm – Friday 11pm. Maximum temperature will be 83 degrees, a heat index reaching 85, and a maximum dew point of 65. The muggers take a break for the weekend (union rules) but return for Monday night.  Monday 8pm – Tuesday 12am. Maximum temperature will be 80 degrees, a heat index reaching 82, and a maximum dew point of 65. Tuesday 5am – Tuesday 9am. Maximum temperature will be 74 degrees and a maximum dew point of 65.

On this day in 1977, the Great 1977 New York City Blackout begins, plunging New York into 24 hours of darkness, chaos, and crime. It really was a dark time in the bankrupt city. In contrast, 12 years earlier the Blackout of 1965 was a peaceful inconvenience for many.

There are 1 weeks until Ugly Truck Day when the sun will be setting at 8:26 pm with dusk at 8:59 pm. The average high temperature is 83 degrees, with a record high of 97 in 1991. Pretty much like today. You probably will want to recharge the air conditioning on your ugly truck before then, so you can be cruising in comfort, if not style.

Today I have my eye appointment for my eye check up. It will be nice to be able to see. Hopefully the eye doctor will be well air conditioned. I may get to leave work early but it’s possible that I will have to head back to work after my eye appointment.

Some minor traffic delays heading downtown. Both on the South Mall Arterial and Southern Boulevard. I don’t know the causes but so be it. It doesn’t seem that bad.

Still looking forward to the weekend but I don’t know if I will be stuck in town. But I’m still looking forward to the Mine Kill State Park and the always scenic drive out there. Hopefully if I do have to go to work, I’ll be able to get out early on Saturday.

Well, Moovit says I’m two stops away from work, so I better finish up my post. Enjoy this Hazy, Crazy Day of Summer. And stay cool.
