Map: French Creek WMA

Map: French Creek WMA

An area of varied habitat, this 2300-acre WMA is located southwest of Clayton in Jefferson County. Access is best gained four miles from the village on the French Creek Road (off Crystal Springs Road, Co Rt 4). The Deferno, House, and Grant roads provide access to the south. French Creek and Bevins roads crosses the southern section with a small parking lot at the bridge on Bevins Road. Small game and song birds are found here in the open meadows and hardwood uplands. Oak and Hickory trees provide nut mast for wildlife to eat. Waterfowl and furbearers find suitable homes as well in the cattail marsh which borders the open water of French Creek. Both small rowboats and canoes can be used in the broad channel of the creek. Unpaved roads within the WMA provide good access, but foot travel is the primary means of movement through the area. French Creek is open to use under the general state wildlife management area regulations.

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 73 degrees in Westerlo. There is a west-northwest breeze at 11 mph. The dew point is 62 degrees.

This afternoon will have isolated showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high of 73 degrees at 5pm. Eight degrees below normal. Northwest wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Maximum dew point of 62 at 5pm. The record high of 98 was set in 1936. The sun will set at 8:33 pm with dusk around 9:07 pm, which is 30 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 15 hours and 4 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 1 minutes and 15 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, with a low of 58 degrees at 4am. Three degrees below normal. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming light after midnight. Maximum dew point of 62 at 6pm. The record low of 48 occurred back in 1986.

On this day in 1890, Wyoming is admitted to the United States as the 44th US State. Many liberals regard that as a mistake, although it has some beautiful country out in Yellowstone and lots of oil and coal. And in 1962, Telstar, the world’s first communication satellite is launched.

There are 3 weeks until Mutts Day when the sun will be setting at 8:15 pm with dusk at 8:47 pm. The average high temperature is 82 degrees, with a record high of 98 in 1917.

On the rain day yesterday, I rendered up a bunch of new maps. I expect to be featuring them over the next few weeks. I also implemented some features that will make it easier for me to feature the best maps of previous times.

Good afternoon! Partly cloudy skies and 70 degrees at the Keheler Preserve in New Scotland. There is a 11 mph breeze from the northwest. The current dew point is 61.

Some haze but it’s become a decent day as it has progressed. Sitting at the Overlook Chair at Keheler Preserve, thinking it’s ironic to be spending time on the weekend looking back at the office building I normally work in on weekdays.

A pretty nice afternoon but I expect it to cloud back up. We needed the rain for sure. Not nearly enough rain for all the clouds we had yesterday but at least it made the woods damp to reduce the fire risk.

Once again I left the long lens in my truck. I really wanted to have it for taking pictures from along the Overlook Trail. At least this area is close to home. A nice evening I should pack a dinner and go for an evening hike when we have strong  evening light over the city.
