July 7, 2016 10 PM Update

Good evening! Partly clear and very stary skies and a warm  76 degrees at 10 o’clock in Delmar. There is a 3 mph breeze from the south-southwest. The current dew point is 71. It is incredibly humid but at least the fireflies like it, although it seems like there are fewer tonight then last night. Crickets continue to sing their song.

My apartment is a sauna, but except for a quick dinner, I’ve been either outside or at the air conditioned library. By the time I got home at quarter to six, the mercury had already dripped a lot but it remains incredibly humid. Probably need to get the mildew remover out this weekend.

I went down to the library and implemented some new code on the blog, relating to improving accuracy of the forecast templates that I use. I also got some library books out. Now that I have the books, I can have something to read when I go down to the park tomorrow until dusk.

I plugged in the digital converter box and it automatically taped the PBS Newshour for me. I probably will go in a little bit and watch the first half hour. I should be keeping track of what is happening more in the world, no matter how awful it may be.

Waking up tomorrow at seven, you’ll rise to partly sunny skies and 71 degrees. There will be a 3 mph breeze from the north. The dew point remains sticky at 69.

Tonight we have a Waxing Crescent Moon with 20% illuminated. Quite a pretty looking sliver of a moon tonight as twilight got underway. The moon will will set around 11:43 pm. July’s Buck Moon is on Tuesday, July 19th.

Tomorrow the sun will rise at 5:26 am with the first light at 4:52 am, which is 43 seconds later then today.

Tomorrow will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Increasing clouds, with a high near 86. Four degrees above normal. North wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record high of 100 was set in 1936. The maximum dew point tomorrow will be 71 at midnight. It will drop somewhat as the day progresses.

Looking ahead, State Fair Opens is in 7 weeks and Thanksgiving is in 20 weeks. The heat breaks somewhat for the weekend and returns midweek.

July 7, 2016 Evening

Good evening! Mostly cloudy and 81 degrees in Albany, NY. The dew point is 72 degrees. The heat index is 85. Warm evening for sure. You don’t often see dew points above 70 degrees in Albany. I was in air conditioned office all day, so I didn’t notice the heat but I’m sure it will be hot when I get home.

Tonight the sun will set at 8:34 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 23 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight we have a Waxing Crescent Moon with 20% illuminated. The moon will will set around 11:43 pm. July’s Buck Moon is on Tuesday, July 19th.

Tonight will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. Eight degrees above normal. Hot and sticky all night. Light and variable wind. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1969. At least there is a 69 in that number.

Right now, a split verdict on the weekend with Sunday improving a lot from earlier forecasts.  Saturday, a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 75. Southeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. We need it. Sunday looks much nicer with only  a chance of showers before 8am. Partly sunny, with a high near 78. Dew points dropping back into the high 50s.Chance of precipitation is 30%. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees.

In four weeks on August 4 the sun will be setting at 8:10 pm, which is 24 minutes earlier then today. The average high is 82 degrees, and the record for that date is 98 degrees was set back in 1955. That was a hot year back in ’55, according to the record books.

I still don’t have a library book, but I think I’d rather go to the park rather than the library. Although now that I think of it, I think they have special events at the park on Thursday, so I would be better off going to the library.

I think my weekend plans are do some cleaning around the Man Cave and toss a line in the Hudson. Sunday looks pretty good for going out somewhere but I don’t know where. Certainly not good camping weather but there has to be fun, local trip I could do for the second day of the weekend that isn’t a budget buster. I had some extra money in my account until it found ways to allocate itself.

The Finger Lakes in a little more than two weeks will be a lot of fun. I need a good tan and time spent in those Adirondack chairs along the pool. While Moose River Plains was fun last weekend, they don’t have a swimming pool up there, and it was relatively cool. I’m hoping for nice weather for vacation.

July 7, 2016 9 AM Update

I think I’m soaked in sweat from the five minutes between getting out of the shower and waiting for the bus. At least the bus is reasonably cool. Cloudy and 77 degrees in Delmar. There is a south breeze at 8 mph. The dew point is 67 degrees. Definitely muggy out and it will be getting muggier as the day progresses.

Today will have some isolated showers between 9am and noon, then scattered showers and thunderstorms after noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 87. Five degrees above normal. Southwest wind 3 to 6 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record high of 97 was set in 1988.

Tonight the sun will set at 8:35 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 24 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 15 hours and 9 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 1 minutes and 6 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 11pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 69. Eight degrees above normal. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record low of 43 occurred back in 1969.

On this day in 1981, U.S. President Ronald Reagan appoints Sandra Day O’Connor to become the first female member of the Supreme Court of the United States. That’s almost as cool as sliced bread, which is sold for the first time by Chillico the Baking Company in 1921.

There are 7 weeks until State Fair Opens when the sun will be setting at 7:39 pm with dusk at 8:09 pm. The average high temperature is 79 degrees, with a record high of 99 in 1947.

I was in a bit of a haze this morning after taking sleeping pills last night, so I wouldn’t stay awake all night in the heat. I opened the shades before bed to let in more air, but that also let in sun at five in the morning, when I first awoke then went back to sleep an hour later. Didn’t hear my alarm clock at seven, so ended up taking the local yokel bus to work. That’s fine, it would have been a sticky walk down to the express bus.

I don’t like the heat but I still don’t believe in air conditioning. I may be old fashioned but I still prefer fresh air and spending hot evenings down at the park, and hot weekends with feet in the Potholers. If I had air conditioning I would probably spend more time inside. I like air conditioning in my truck, but that’s because sometimes I get stuck in traffic in the city.

Despite buying a digital converter box to hook my computer monitor into to get television reception, I haven’t had it plugged in for more than a month. I used to like watching the PBS Newshour, but the news lately has become so much about partisan trolling, that I’m disinterested in knowing what the news is. Most of the news doesn’t really impact my life.
