July 6, 2016 Night

Definitely a hot and sticky evening. They don’t get much hotter, at least not until tomorrow night.  We have lots of fireflies out enjoying the heat and humidity although the skies are somewhat cloudy in the west. There was a slender moon that just a little while dipped into the clouds and disappeared beyond the horizon. At 10 pmPartly cloudy and 77 degrees in Delmar. There is a west-northwest breeze at 3 mph. The dew point is 65 degrees, guaranteeing sticky sleeping conditions.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Seven degrees above normal. Dew points will only be a few degrees below the low. Calm wind. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1979.

The sun will rise at 5:26 am with the first light at 4:51 am, which is 42 seconds later then today.

Tomorrow look for scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 9am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 90 with dew points exceeding an oppressive 70. Eight degrees above normal with lots of mugginess. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record high of 97 was set in 1988.

Looking ahead, Thrift Shop Day is in 6 weeks.

Thursday Night. Scattered T-storms and 70 degrees.
Friday. Partly Sunny then Chance of T-storms and 86 degrees.
Friday Night. Showers is likely and 69 degrees.

A bit of a cool down for the weekend with unstable conditions.

Saturday. T-storms is likely and 80 degrees.
Saturday Night. Showers is likely and 64 degrees.
Sunday. Chance of Showers and 76 degrees.
Sunday Night. Partly Cloudy and 59 degrees.
Monday. Mostly Sunny and 81 degrees.
Monday Night. Mostly Clear and 60 degrees.
Tuesday. Mostly Sunny and 84 degrees.

All I can say it’s hot outside and even hotter in my apartment. It’s tempting to just sleep outside or in my truck. But I have the fan inside, and took some sleeping pills and just got done enjoying a cold glass of orange juice. Not too bad sitting out back, or even when I was at the park earlier. I do need to get a library book to read. Maybe at lunch time tomorrow at the Albany Public Library. The laptop is fun at the park but I still like reading a book after work. I learn something and it calms my nerves.

I’m glad I’m not camping this weekend. I got to do some cleaning, work on some code, and relax. I like nights spent out in the wilderness but after a while packing and unpacking camping gear gets really tiring. Hopefully it won’t be so muggy this weekend.

July 6, 2016 Evening

Good afternoon! Partly cloudy and 90 degrees in Albany. There is a north-northwest breeze at 9 mph. The dew point is 65 degrees. Fairly hot and muggy, although the breeze  is helping to reduce temperature a bit.

Tonight will be partly cloudy, with a low around 68. Seven degrees above normal. Humid with a dew point around 65. West wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1979.

Tonight the sun will set at 8:35 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. Tonight we have a Waxing Crescent Moon with 20% illuminated. The moon will will set around 11:08 pm. July’s Buck Moon is on Tuesday, July 19th.

Thursday will have a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 90. Eight degrees above normal. Very humid with dew point exceeding 70. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. The record high of 97 was set in 1988.

Hot, Humid, Stormy weekend on tap. Saturday, showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 80. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Sunday, a chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 76. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Typical average high for the weekend is 82 degrees. I’m staying home for the weekend.

In four weeks on August 3 the sun will be setting at 8:12 pm, which is 23 minutes earlier then today. The average high is 82 degrees, and the record for that date is 97 degrees was set back in 1975.

I didn’t get a book out of the library, but I still may go down to the park after dinner. I might just bring my laptop or a book I have at home to read. I think it will be a nice evening down at the park.

Gas prices seen to have come down a few more cents. There is still a pretty good oil glut in our country, but  I’m sure it won’t last. Probably Big Oil doesn’t like Trump. It will be good for summer vacations, but I’m sure the cheap oil won’t last. I’m sure that next four years will be fun for sure.

July 6, 2016 8 AM Update

As we head towards 90 degrees on this hot and humid day, we are making good progress. Mostly sunny and 86 degrees in Delmar. There is a west breeze at 5 mph. The dew point is 63 degrees.

Today will be sunny, with a high near 91. Nine degrees above normal. Dew points will be sticky, mostly in the mid 60s. West wind 3 to 7 mph. The record high of 97 was set in 1886. Tonight the sun will set at 8:35 pm with dusk around 9:09 pm, which is 21 seconds earlier than yesterday. Today will have 15 hours and 10 minutes of daylight, a decrease of 1 minutes and 2 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 68. Seven degrees above normal. Sticky conditions making for ddifficult conditions, with a dew point reaching 67 by 10 pm. Light and variable wind. The record low of 44 occurred back in 1979.

It gets even hotter for Thursday. Yeap. The mercury may only reach 88 or 89 degrees but the dew point will likely break a tropical 70, possibly reaching 71 degrees. How oppressive is that? Most standard air conditioners can only handle dew points up to 76 degrees, at which point they’ll run non stop and produce no cooling. In Florida they sometimes have dew points in the upper 70s but that’s unheard of here.

On this day in 1947, The AK-47 goes into production in the Soviet Union. Even after almost seven decades, the model and its variants remain the most popular and widely used assault rifles in the world because of their substantial reliability under harsh conditions, low production costs compared to contemporary Western weapons, availability in virtually every geographic region and ease of use.

There are 6 weeks until Thrift Shop Day when the sun will be setting at 7:52 pm with dusk at 8:22 pm. The average high temperature is 81 degrees, with a record high of 97 in 1913. The sun sets much earlier once August gets well underway.

I haven’t had any problems with the truck last night. I’ll keep taking it around for trips, but I think the glitch I noticed over the weekend has gone away. But I given it some more thought, and I’ll take Big Red to the shop to get the air conditioning recharged, the transmission and axle fluids changed scheduled maintenance and a pre-summer road trip inspection done. I could do most of those things done myself but I’d rather leave it to the professionals and not waste my Saturday doing things that can be done better while I’m a work. After all, I can’t get back time lost should I break down on a summer trip (or the cost of a rental car, hotel, etc.). Plus I don’t want to be hot on a summer trip, even though things cool down after a while. Figure budget $500-1,000 but hopefully it will be on the low-end of that.

I don’t expect summer vacation to be enormously expensive. I figure I will mostly need $200-250 in gas, plus food (much of which would normally be spent in a week), plus a few miscellaneous supplies like paper towels and ice. Maybe stop and get ice cream or a few other things. Camping is free in the National Forest and I get into state parks for free with my Empire Passport. Maybe $500 for the week — which should be nice.

I’m going to hold off on getting the intertube for floating. The ones I’ve been looking at aren’t real expensive, but I don’t think I’ll use it until August. Still thinking about the Bluetooth speaker, as that would be good for my summer vacation trip at camp. We will see. I think I can make the math work for all these money priorities.

We will see how this all plays out. Have a good Wednesday.

July 6, 2016 Morning

Good morning! What day is it? A Hazy, Hot, and Humid Hump Day, of course. Mostly sunny and already up to 70 degrees in Delmar. There is a south-southwest breeze at 5 mph. The dew point is 61 degrees.

Today will be sunny, with a high near 91. Nine degrees above normal. Calm wind becoming west 5 to 7 mph in the morning. Fairly humid today with a dew point around 64 degrees at 4 pm, and creeping up to an oppressive 66 by 9 pm. Not quite record breaking with the  record high of 97 was set in 1886.
