May 26, 2016 Night

We are down to 71 degrees under mostly clear skies. The dew point is 55. Definitely still fairly warm. Only getting down to 64 degrees. Tomorrow will be hazy if not cloudy with temperatures around 90 degrees and much more humid.

I’m packed for Memorial Day Weekend camping. I have a few more things to do in the morning but I should be able to leave right after work. I have a campsite in mind in Vermont but I realize with the holiday weekend I may not get it.

Hooked up the PA speaker under my truck. It’s not super loud but it was only $19 and will be fun to play with occasionally. I could hook up an amplifier to make it louder but I really don’t want to run any more wires.

I also bought a solar spotlight to use up at camp, to light up the flag when either tent camping or after I kill the inverter for the evening. It’s a small 100 lumen LED lamp but it can run 6 hours per night or nearly all night in the summer. I didn’t want to spend $38 on it but I hope to get a lot of use out of it. Camping on the Hudson River Islands State Park would be cool with the lit flag or even a tent in the back country.

Glad I bought a big box fan last year. I need tonight. Good night.

May 26, 2016 Evening

84 degrees under overcast skies on this pack up and get ready to leave town evening. The dew point has dropped a bit since this morning and with the clouds feels relatively cool.

Today the Adirondack Northway turns 55 years old. For the first time in 1961, you could get from Albany to north of Lake George in less than one hour. It forever brought the Adirondacks closer to a major population center in the region. The Adirondack Northway was also complete today in 1961 from Montreal to south of Keeseville, at which point you had take US 9 until the Northway was completed shortly before the opening of Expo 67.

A hazy, hot and humid summer week is ahead of us. I know some models are down on the weekend but I’m not seeing a washout. Maybe some downpours with the thunderstorms that will come with the territory of such heat and humidity, but it won’t be anything like the soaker of 2013. And a lot warmer than 2015 which was so frigid at North Lake. Maybe not quite as nice as most of 2014. Independence Day generally is better weather then Memorial Day but beggars can’t be choosers. It’s still the unofficial kick off to summer, black flies and all.

No matter how you cut it, summer is rapidly getting underway. While it can be somewhat miserable, haze, heat and humidity all are part of the season and sure make those swimming holes feel nice.

May 26, 2016 Morning

Good morning. 68 degrees this morning with a dew point around 57. You’re feeling the humidity a bit this morning but it’s hardly oppressive. While the mercury will climb to 86 later the dew point will max out at 61, so it won’t feel oppressively humid. A light breeze especially downtown and in the mountains will also help. More clouds later.

Tomorrow the humidity kicks in with a dew point around 67 and mercury pushing 90. That will make it feel hazy, hot and humid. The increasing chance of thunderstorms and cloudy may make the humidity fairly bearable.

I think I will leave right from work tomorrow for Vermont. Traffic might be bad and I may have to go into town mid week to buy ice but hopefully I can find a shady (no, not what you’re thinking) place to park in downtown. I specifically did not buy a black truck due to hot days. I am still worried about getting a decent campsite, but maybe with some begging I can get out of jail before 5 PM.

The bus driver gave me a ride down to the Park and Ride this morning. That was nice, although I almost prefer walking on a nice day like today. I think most of the drivers change next week. I just hope the 5 PM Voorheesville express bus remains reliable come the summer driver. They seem to have a lot of trouble producing reliable trips in the summer months. No changes to my bus routes, but you should check the schedule to see if the changes impact you.
