April 17, 2016 Afternoon

A week from next Sunday will be the first of May. But today definitely feels spring like with the mercury reading 66 degrees under sunny skies. Earlier this morning I went to the laundromat and cleaned up my apartment. My bathroom faucet has a slow leak, so I’m  going to call my landlord and ask for it to be fixed. It’s a bit annoying to listen to and I don’t want to waste water. He pays for water, so I’m sure it will get fixed. Still things have to be a bit picked up before he  comes.

Been planning my spring road trip. Leaving on Tuesday April 26, hopefully early, from work. Going to head out to Madison County and camp at one of the state forests depending on how far west I get. Fish the Cazenovia Creek on Wednesday morning. I want to hit up that great fishing hole I spent a lot of time at two summers ago. Then Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge for some birding then down to Seneca Falls and onward to the Finger Lakes National Forest. Camp there, then hit up the Cayuga Inlet and other trout streams. Hike some of the gorges. I’m bringing my kayak, so I’ll be able to paddle a big on some of the lakes. I may also want to explore the Watkins Glen – Montour Falls Barge canal and the nearby Catherine Creek WMA. Early Saturday in going to head down to Wellsboro PA and spend the day hiking in the Pine Creek gorge, on the rail trail. Pack a lunch and enjoy the nice spring weather there. I could get a camping permit and camp in Painter Run but I’ll probably just use the $10 night Asaph campground. We will see. Hit a few state parks in PA on my way home.

I want to get that camp stove before I take the trip. While the single burner white gas stoves work and will remain my choice for backcountry use, I want something I’m not messing with smelly gasoline that has to be pumped up and puts out a random amount of heat.

73 degrees later today. I think I’m going up to Partridge Run and are going to try the upper part of the Switz Kill by the big waterfalls for trout. Do a little hike, then maybe try hitting the eight mile Creek again. Been kind of lazy but yesterday was busy with the Pine Bush clean up.

Have a great afternoon.
