March 18, 2016 night

Good evening. Currently we are starting to clear out and we are down to 37 degrees. Going to be a seasonable evening tonight with lows around 25.

Tomorrow will be sunny but cool, with the high only about 39 degrees or about 5 degrees below normal. Lots of sunshine expected but a stiff breeze will mean windchills around 30.

Waxing Gibbous Moon with 60% visible. It will set around 3:30 am. Full Worm Moon on Tuesday. Sunrise tomorrow around 7 am with first light about an earlier earlier.

A cold night compared to recent. For sure. But let’s be honest, we still are in the middle of March. We expect cold weather to last for a while longer.

Friday evening at the park

Laying back on the park bench on this chilly evening, looking at the clouds, listening to Otis Redding…

Look like nothin’s gonna change
Everything, still remains the same
I can’t do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I’ll remain the same…

March 18, 2016 Evening

Good evening! If you can read these words, you’ve made it to a Friday evening. The work week is over. This afternoon definitely feels like mid-March being cloudy with the mercury dropping to 44 degrees and a 15 mph west-northwest wind, with gusts up to 29 mph. With the wind chill value it feels like 37 degrees or maybe even colder when you factor in the clouds.

Tonight will be mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming mostly clear, with a low around 23. Northwest wind 7 to 15 mph. A cool evening on tap, about 4 degrees below normal. Cold but nothing like that night back in 1967, when it got down to -10 degrees.

Tonight the sun will set at 7:06 pm with darkness around 7:34 pm, which is 1 minutes and 10 seconds later than yesterday. In four weeks on April 15 the sun will be setting at 7:38 pm, which is 32 minutes later then today. When you figure in civil twilight when it’s really dark out, you’re looking at after 8 pm.

Tonight we have a Waxing Gibbous Moon with 67% illuminated. It will set at 3:00 am. March’s Full Worm Moon is is on Tuesday.

Tomorrow us going to be sunny but cold, with a high near 41. A northwest wind around 8 mph. Going to be a cold weekend about 5 degrees below normal for Saturday. The record high of 78 degrees was set back in 2012.

I am not sure what my weekend plans are for sure. I plan to do Sunday dinner at my parent’s house on Saturday to avoid potentially icy roads on Sunday evening. I don’t foresee a major storm but things can change. Sunday is the Save the Pine Bush Hike at 2 pm. I also need to do some cleaning at home. We will see. Maybe go somewhere local tomorrow.

I am still thinking about camping at a lean for Easter Weekend but that plan is far from finalized and honestly a lot depends on weather and work. It would be a fun weekend.

March 18, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Yeah, it’s Friday! Currently it’s mostly cloudy with clearing to the east and 41 degrees with a 10 mph west wind. The wind chill value is currently 35. Fairly mild but it’s expected to to get chillier for the weekend. The high for the most of the weekend is below where it is this morning.

Later we will have a chance of showers, mainly before noon. Partly sunny, with a noon-time high near 47. Temperatures will be dropping this afternoon as a cold front pushes in. West wind 10 to 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible. That’s about 2 degrees above normal. The record high of 69 degrees was set back in 2012.

Tonight the sun will set at 7:06 pm with darkness around 7:34 pm, which is 1 minutes and 10 seconds later than yesterday. Today will have 12 hours and 6 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 55 seconds over yesterday.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with a low around 24. Northwest wind 7 to 13 mph. That’s about 3 degrees below normal. The record low of -10 degrees was set back in 1967.

There are 3 days until First Day of Spring when the sun will be setting at 7:09 pm. The average high temperature for First Day of Spring is 46 degrees, with a record high of 78 in 1921.

Happy Birthday to the late Governor William Sulzer, the only governor to be impeached in New York State history, in a trial viewed to be politically motivated on the behest of Tammany Hall. Governor William Sulzer is a press corp favorite in Albany because the governor hung his picture with a starring pose next to the room where the legislative leaders meet to discuss the budget and major policy initiatives. I’m sure that the placement is intentional.

Today in 1970 the US Postal service went on strike, slowing and stopping the mail in parts of the country. At the time, it was called the largest wild cat strike in American history and probably the largest public sector strike off all times.
