March 14, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. Currently It is raining outside and around 42 degrees with a 14 mph south-southeast wind, with gusts up to 25 mph. With the rain and breeze, we have a wind chill value around 35. Kind of a nasty morning to misplace one’s umbrella like I did. With the breeze, the umbrella really ain’t that useful.

Today will be periods of rain and sleet, becoming all rain after 1pm. High near 42. Southeast wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no sleet accumulation expected. After about a week of above weather, we are now about 1 degrees below normal. The record high of 75 degrees was set back in 1946.

Tonight the sun will set at 7:01 pm with darkness around 7:29 pm, which is 1 minute and 10 seconds later than yesterday. Yeah, daylight savings time. Today will have 11 hours and 55 minutes of daylight, an increase of 2 minutes and 54 seconds over yesterday. Thursday, aka Saint Patrick’s Day, we will have more hours of daylight than darkness.

Tonight will have showers likely before 8pm, then rain likely after 8pm. Cloudy, with a low around 38. Southeast wind 6 to 8 mph becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible. Generally mild, about 13 degrees above normal. The record low of 1 degrees was set back in 1993. The record lows don’t have the fangs they once had only a few weeks ago.

There are 18 days until April Fools Day when the sun will be setting at 7:22 pm. The average high temperature for April Fools Day is 52 degrees, with a record high of 77 in 1986. After having a shellac record smashing 82 degrees a week ago, 77 degrees doesn’t seem that warm.

Happy Pi Day on this 3/14. The math geeks really like this date. And hats off to the Linux geeks who made Linux kernel 1.0 a possibility, released today in 1994. I am old enough to remember when Linux kernel 2.0 was experimental on the PowerPC and 1.8 was the stable version. I don’t know what version of the kernel is modern now, as it’s been a long time since I’ve compiled my own kernel.

Today in 1964, Jack Ruby the questionable bar tender and general character was found guilty of murder of Lee Harvey Oswald. Oswald killed President Kennedy back in November 1963. Or so does the public record reflect. Some blame Fidel Castro.

Energy Policy Act Of 2005.

Don't like having to go to work an hour earlier today ?

You can thank President George W. Bush for forcing you to get up an hour earlier, along with lobbyists from Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association, the National Association of Convenience Stores, and the National Retinitis Pigmentosa Foundation Fighting Blindness.

If not for the Energy Policy Act of 2005, Daylight Savings Time would begin on April 3rd.
