February 29, 2016 morning

Good morning on this Leap Day. You better make the most of it because it’s the last one we will celebrate through 2020. Currently 47 degrees with a light rain coming down. Heavier showers will approach as the morning progresses.

Then the mercury will drop after the front passes, and look for increasing sun and temperatures in the 30s for the afternoon. Should for all intents and purposes be a nice day.

Today is the 60th day of 2016. At least we will be getting closer to aligning the calendar to the natural rotation of the earth around the sun. People born today only get to celebrate their birthday every four years.

Happy Birthday to Bart Stupak, the pro-life Upper Peninsula of Michigan Democrat who was infamous for his amendment prohibiting Obamacare from covering abortion services, even when the a women pays for such coverage out of her own funds. Stupak, who retired from Congress in 2010, turns 64 today and is celebrating his 16th Birthday.

Today during Leap Year 1504, Christopher ColumbusΒ uses his knowledge of aΒ lunar eclipseΒ that night to convinceΒ Native AmericansΒ to provide him with supplies.

It was a nice weekend and a meaningful one for me, getting a nice evening on Saturday night in the wilderness. I certainly enjoyed the fact it wasn’t too frigid and I enjoyed the stars and the campfire in the wilderness. It was pretty quite along Route 8, and having the lights up at camp was a big bonus. Watching the ice racing on Lake Algonquin was pretty neat.

That said, I got a pretty late start to bed, as I had to do a lot of things after I got home. So be it. I got my wash done, my truck washed, groceries bought, and the clothes and food put away. I slept in a bit this morning and are taking the later bus to work.

Looking forward to a decent week as spring approaches. All evidence points to a mild spring, we may be done for snow this year. We will see.
