February 8, 2016 Evening

Good evening. Currently we have light snow coming down and 25 degrees in Albany. The snow is mostly making the city streets and sidewalks slick. The suburban state roads have been pre-treated. Tonight more snow is likely, mainly before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 22. Northeast wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible. Enough to make driving hazardous, especially on untreated surfaces.

Tonight is the New Moon. The First Quarter Moon is on next Monday. Tuesday will be a chance of snow showers, mainly after 4pm. Cloudy, with a high near 32. East wind 3 to 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

In four weeks on March 7 the sun will be setting at 5:53 pm, which is 35 minutes later then tonight. There are 1 month, 19 days until Easter. when the sun will be setting at 7:16 pm. I can’t wait. Easter will be early this year due to when the moon falls but the longer days are sorely wanted, at least by myself.

I activated a new monthly bus pass today through March 8, so I know by the time it expires it will almost be the end of standard time. I don’t like getting up earlier but having sun in the evening will be so nice.

Next weekend for President’s Day Weekend is expected to be truly frigid. Kind of like normal winter when El Nino and the Pacific North Atlantic telecommunication isn’t stuck in the negative phase. Kind of sucks as I was hoping to take off for a long weekend to the Adirondacks or maybe Chenango County. So be it. Endless summer can’t be that far away.

Orangeburg Massacre.

Orangeburg Massacre.

The Orangeburg Massacre occurred 48 years ago today.

It's an interesting story to contrast to the Kent State Shootings, as it's often overlooked in popular history. Why was it called a massacre, while Kent State was a shooting -- even though both events were eerily similar except for the race and class of victims? Why do most people know about Kent State but not Orangeburg?

February 8, 2016 Morning

Good morning! Monday’s come back around again. It is currently overcast and 27 degrees in Delmar. A little bit of sun to the south but pretty gray. We are missing the big snow they are getting once again in Boston.

Today will have a chance of snow, mainly after 3pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 34. Northeast wind around 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than one inch possible. Sunset will be at 5:18 pm with twilight at 5:47 pm which is one minute and 19 seconds later then yesterday.

Tonight will snow most likely before 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 23. Northeast wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

There are 4 months, 11 days until Fathers Day.

Today in 1968 was theΒ Orangeburg massacre when South Carolina Highway Patrolman fire on black protesters, killing 3 protesters and injuring 28 others. The South Carolina State University students were protesting segregation at a local bowling alley. The Orangeburg massacre is largely been forgotten in the pages of history since Kent State shootings in 1970, in part because the victims were colored and poor. It’s interesting how the history books call Kent State a shooting and Orangeburg a massacre.

Also on the financial front, in 1971 theΒ NASDAQΒ stock market index opens for the first time. NASDAQ is primarily focused on high tech stocks.
