September 17, 2015 evening

Good evening. 68 degrees and clear this evening. A beautiful thin but large Crescent Moon that set a few minutes ago.

Went down to the Henry Hudson Park for a bit then to Walmart to get supplies for camping. At Lowe’s bought a step stool so I can safely climb and tie the kayak on.

Also got a daylight sensor switch for the porch light so I can leave the porch light switched on all day but not using electricity all day. This is good with the sun setting early, leading me to stumble around in the dark looking for the key. That said, I already use an 12 watt LED bulb, so I don’t know how much I’ll save but it seems psychologically good not leaving the bulb burning all day.

Did my first evening walk since I had my sprained ankle. Not too much pain but my knees felt a bit weak by the end. I haven’t done much walking after my injury and a 2.5 mile walk since then. But now, going forward I will try to do it as close to daily. I’m sure I’ll get better as time goes by.

September 17, 2015 afternoon

As we progress through the final five days of summer, it looks like we fell a few degrees below the predicted 85 degrees. Regardless, not a half bad day for September 17th. Sunset tonight is at 7:02 PM, the last sunset after seven until March 13, 2016 β€” the first Sunday after daylight savings returns next year. Prior to 10 PM look for a Waining Cresent Moon. Low around 56 degrees.

Traffic is sluggish but moving in the passing lane on 787 but delays as you head towards 9W. I can’t wait until the construction finally ends. It always so annoying but then again so is rush hour. 9W traffic is a real drag today.

This afternoon I am getting packed for Lewis County. I will leave in the morning for a trip to the Otter Creek-area. Hopefully the colors will be nice up north. I haven’t been up in that portion of the state since 2013. Should be a nice trip – warm for the first half of the week and cooler on the second half.

September 16, 2015 morning

Good morning on this Foggy Thursday. Got fairly chilly last night, a point I noticed as I failed to make my bed last night, so I was sleeping above the covers. Even if it gets chilly next month, I doubt I will turn on the heat before November. Currently, 58 degrees.

Today is going to be another warm day with the mercury heading up to 85 degrees. Right now we’ve reached the high dewpoint of the day, for the rest of the day look for a comfortable dewpoint in the upper 50s. Sunny once the fog burns off.

Tomorrow I’m off to Lewis County through Monday for a long weekend. Probably spend most of it in the greater Lowville area, between Whetstone Gulf, Otter Creek, Independence River, and Smith Road in Number Four. Bringing the kayak, will paddle Whetstone Reservoir if all goes well. Maybe fish the Black River and do some target shooting. I will take pictures both with my phone and the Digital SLR camera. As I will most likely have cell service most of the weekend I will post pictures throughout.
