August 31, 2015 evening

Good evening! It’s 78 degrees and mostly clear as the civil twilight passes us by and night time takes over the sky. The moon is expected to rise around 8:50 PM and it will be mostly full once again tonight. Humid, but not too oppressive this evening.

Tonight is the first evening in a while where I’ve not driven to the library or the park — or for that matter just stayed home in bed. I took off the sprain boot for a while, and carefully walked down to the bus stop and then took the bus down to the Roweland Avenue bus stop, and walked the rest of the way to the library. Undecided if I will walk all the way home.

My ankle is a little sore from walking, but I’m trying to start to build it back up. I will continue to wear the sprain boot most of the time as the doctor advised, but occasionally, I want to see if I can walk on my own short distances. I’m pretty desperate to get back up and walking again as I hate being stuck at a desk all day, then being forced to drive if I want to go anywhere in the evening. By mid-September by the time I’m officially getting the boot off and back to the doctor, I want my ankle to be plenty strong so I can go out hunting, fishing, kayaking, and camping without restriction. I’d hate to miss the fall foliage because I can’t climb mountains, especially when work is slow this fall.

August 31, 2015 update

Good morning! Happy Monday. As we head into the 9 AM hour, it looks like the fog has yet to burn off, but already the heat and humidity is creeping up to 70 degrees. At 88 degrees for a high, today may not be the warmest day of the summer, but it’s still going to be uncomfortably hot by afternoon. But get used to it, as 90 plus degrees is expected to the norm for the foreseeable future. As we enter September, apparently summer has decided to arrive. I guess it’s a bit too early to call it Indian Summer, but with ample rain this summer and warm temperatures going into September, it seems like the fall foliage will be delayed. Yet, I think fall foliage won’t be bad by Moosefest at Moose River Plains the last week of September.

Labor Day Weekend sure is late this year, but with the forecast it seems that Labor Day Weekend will be midsummer long. I guess I’ll just have to bring lots of cold beverages to pass the time. I guess if summer has to come late, it’s better late then never. Maybe the late summer will hold off fall for a couple of weeks, and we can enjoy more of the nice weather before it becomes cold out. That said, it still is going to get dark early and warm weather can’t prevent the sun from setting early. But maybe it will be a mild winter, and I will still be able to get out for some adventures well into November and December. This year should be quiet at work, so I should have plenty of time to travel and hunt/trap. I got both licenses on Friday (without problem) and also my turkey tag. I didn’t get a DMP but I guess I could get one later if I so decide.

So Labor Day Weekend most likely I’ll be at Moose River Plains and I’m looking at heading up to Lewis County to visit Whetstone Gulf and the Independence River area during the third weekend of the month. That’s only going to be a four day, extended weekend type trip. Then I’m thinking of taking a North Country trip in October, but that is not set totally in stone. Or maybe I’ll take a trip down south to Virgina and West Virigina, and camp in the backcountry down there. That’s a long trip, but there is no reason that I couldn’t do it if I had a week. We will see how things play out in the coming months.

August 31, 2015 morning

Good morning on this last day of August.Β Going to be a hot one, getting up to 88 degrees later once the fog burns off. Currently 65 degrees but that temperature is only going to get warmer. Getting up to the 90s by midweek and the hot weather is expected to continue into Labor Day Weekend.Β Have a great day!
