August 28, 2015 evening

Good evening on this Friday night.Β As the 8 PM hour gets underway, it’s currently 73 degrees with some residual sun in the distance. We are pretty close to a full moon, so even after the civil twilight comes to a conclusion, moon light should light the skies under clear skies. Going to be a nice night, but chilly if you step away from the campfire outsite.

I took today off from work, as we had the work picnic in the morningΒ and no sense driving in the city in the morning. The work picnic was fun, and the food was great, but being a crippled with my stupid sprain boot on didn’t help. I’m sure my ankle will hurt a little bit in the morning from all the walking around — but so be it.

Hoping to get out Mine Kill State Park and do some swimming,Β and probably spend the night camping up at Burnt-Rossman. It depends how my ankle feels in the morning. I also will see what the weather is like, but it would be fun to get away one last weekend before summer is over and go for a swim. I like Burnt-Rossman but it’s more fun when I can spend a good portion of the day at the pool and stock up on veggies at Shauls Farm Market.

Bought at Remmington 597 .22 Rimfire.Β Nice little gun for $180 (and less with a coupon and Dick’s Score Card parts). A .22 rimfire sisn’t be the greatest gun ever, and it has a cheap synthetic stock, but it also won’t kick much and .22 ammo is finally available and pretty cheap. Should be a lot of fun wasting hours in the woods blowing holes in my targets, tin cans, etc. Also good for dropping squirrels and other things. More fun to shoot then the air rifle I have (as an autoreloader versus break-action), and a lot cheaper to shoot and quieter then the shotgun.

Of course, I don’t have it yet, because the NICS check gave me a DELAY, so I have to wait until the sale is approved or the three day delay expires. Most likely I’ll be able to pick it up on Monday. I’ll still be able to see how much ammo I can burn up at Moose River Plains on Labor Day Weekend. I suspect the 10-round magazine will eat a good portion of the 500 round box of Thunderbolt ammo that I bought.
