July 29, 2015 evening

74 degrees and humid this evening. A breeze is helping a little on this evening’s heat and humidity, not to mention I’m in the woods versus a sticky and hot apartment in the city.

Tonight I’m dog tired. I never thought vacation could be so exhausting but every day this week I’ve been going to bed earlier because I’m so tired. I’m sleeping well, although most mornings I end up getting up by 7:30 as the sun gets in my eyes and I have to put on my boots to run to the shit bucket. I guess I could move it closer to camp at night because now it’s somewhat hidden in the woods.

I think it’s the sitting in the sun all day and the swimming that is tiring me out. I actually was feeling some symptoms of heat exhaustion by afternoon today, as after several hours on the beach, I took a nap for an hour on a bench in the shade. But I’m still ready for bed once this blog post is done.

In the morning, hiked around the rim of Taughannock Gorge. Snapped pictures now seen on the blog. Then went down to the beach on Cayuga Lake for about 3 hours when I decided I wanted a break in the shade. Sat down by the lake for a while, then went an took a nap on a picnic table bench. Went for a second swim. Then it was six o’clock.

Picked up ice and groceries at ShurSave in Trumansburg, a small town grocery store that usually is fairly pricey with limited items, dated lighting and dingy products.Β  I was pleasantly surprised by this store,Β  it appeared newly renovated. Then I got orange vanilla soft yogurt at a ice cream shack know as “Not My Dad’s”. It was pretty good.

Then I stopped by Podunk, a hamlet outside of Trumansburg. There is literally nothing there besides a few houses and a farm, and Podunk Road, but I got a picture at any rate of the neighborhood. I was hoping for a Podunk sign, but no luck.

Came back to camp, made a grill cheese sandwich on the camp stove, as I was so tired. I made a little campfire at 9 PM but have basically let it go out, as I didn’t feel like messing with it.

Tommorow I’m leaving the Finger Lakes and heading west. I don’t have a clear plan but I’ve mentioned several possibilities previously. Adding to that list by thinking about staying at the state developed campground at Stoney Brook State Park or maybe Letchworth State Park. It will depend on the weather.

Good night. I’m almost asleep as I write these words.
