May 5, 2015 evening

Sixty degrees currently. Getting down to 50 by daybreak. 77 to be the high tomorrow with continued sunshine and dry conditions. Fire danger remains high even as the woods greens up, especially in the valleys. Looks wetter come the weekend but also very hot and humid.

USGS has a new historical map downloader that provides easy access to historical maps that includes GeoPDF, GeoTIFF, and KMZ versions. Pretty darn sweet.

Massive Amsterdam 24 million gallon Sewage Spill Went Untold

Massive Amsterdam 24 million gallon Sewage Spill Went Untold

24 million gallons seems like a lot of sewage, but remember it's a drop in the bucket for a river that has a half a billion gallons of water float by every day. It also occurred in December when the boating, swimming, and recreation season was over. Drinking water is filtered and treated with chlorine, so there never was any kind of health hazard.

Still, you got to think they should have at least reported the spill correctly.
