Major Changes Afoot For ‘Forever Wild’ Forest Preserve

With the constitutional protections in the Adirondack Park, I find it hard to believe that much of the wilderness virtue of the park is under attack. Simply said, the prohibition on tree cutting in the park makes it nearly impossible to develop anything but the most primitive of recreational facilities in the Adirondack Park on public lands.

Good evening, Tuesday

Good evening on this frigid evening. Traffic seems to really backed up downtown but the bus was on time to pick me up and go home, so I’m not complaining.

Winter is long but it must eventually come to an end. 90 days from now people will be in that great parking lot known as the Adirondack Northway, waiting to get away for the Memorial Day Weekend.

I am working on a revision of some of the code on the back end of my blog as relates to photos and maps which is why I haven’t posted much new maps lately. The changes are mostly done but there is still more to do. I’ve been working on it slowly but hopefully it will be done by camping season.

Today the markets were up somewhat and while it doesn’t matter that much, I’m glad my investments are growing and the recession is ending – offering all of us more opportunities.

All and all kinds of a dreary cold day but it’s only going to get better. Got to go grocery shopping this evening. It’s rare that I take Big Red out mid-week but last weekend didn’t really get shopping.

Well almost home. Have a great evening.

It Could Be a Lot Warmer or Colder

Today in 1985, the median temperature was 53.5 degrees for the day, and the high was 65 degrees.

Then again in 1894, the median temperature for the -4 and the high for the day was 3 and a low of -11.

Xfce 4.12, One Week Away

XFCE 4.12 is a refinement of what could be considered the most conservative, but modern desktop environment. After trying out Cinnamon, I was unhappy with the performance and stability, and went back to XFCE.

My one gripe about XFCE is it continues to be GTK+2 based, so you sometimes have issues with GTK+3 apps not using the new themes.

Good morning, Frigid Tuesday

Good morning. Today sure is a frigid Tuesday, especially for late February. My phone said it was negative fourteen this morning, although the weatherman reported it was not record cold.

Ever since I set my alarm clock to play the Hollies’ Bus Stop to remind me when to leave for the bus stop, I have felt many mornings that I am starting to relive Ground Hog Day over and over again. It’s always that same darn cheesy song and it’s off to work. Maybe it’s time to set my alarm clock back to a generic alarm.

I will be glad when the road salt in finally gone. Some people hate the cold and snow of winter. I hate the road salt. Road salt covers everything and promotes rust. I wouldn’t mind living in a cold climate state if they didn’t use so much darn road salt. I think when I eventually decide what to do with the rest of my life, I will add the use of road salt to my list of things to consider.
