Campsite Fifty Six

One of my favorite campsites up at Moose Plains is Campsite Number 56. Located in the β€œPlains”, it is surrounded by dense vegetation, and entirely screened from road via dense brush on each side. Unlike being in the woods, however, it is a largely open canopy, home to many grassland birds and with excellent views of the stars above.

I can set up camp here, backing my pickup truck into the site, and not see another person for as long as I stay back there. I might occassionally hear the rumble of a passing pickup truck, or hear a yell from the fairly distant Campsite 57 on the other side of road – which happens to be about a ΒΌ mile away, and down at the bottom of a valley, below the sand dunes, down by Summer Stream.

It is my personal sanctuary, where I go up to a couple of times of year. It really isn’t that far, and you drive right in. And it’s almost like your in a entirely different world.

Tuesday. Rainy Weekend. Leaves Only Coming Out Locally.

Beautiful Tuesday Morning. After the past week’s rather dark and rainy weather, it’s finally gotten pretty nice out. Still only hints of fall in Albany today, but hopefully by this weekend, the leaves should be about peak in the Finger Lakes. We will see – a lot will depend on the elevation.

Β A Rather Broke, Lazy Weekend. The best way to describe this past weekend is that I was pretty broke after closing out the month of September, and it was cold and rainy, so I stayed home, and didn’t do much, besides screwing around with the PHP API and working on replacing the existing blog code.

Saturday, I literally did absolutely nothing, besides just hang around the apartment and screw around with some code. Sunday, was slightly more productive. I went down to the library, then grocery shopping to pick up some essentials. Went for a nice walk at Five Rivers Environmental Education, although the leaves weren’t that turned, except for the maples down by the Vlomans Kill.

Actually Had to Loan Myself Money to Close Out September. So be it. There have been a lot of fun adventures lately, and honestly, money is always tight closing out Septembers. The car insurance bill takes a big bite out of the account this time of year. Things should improve after I get paid Tuesday evening and can repay the money I loaned myself to close out the week.

Next Week Starts My Cross-State Road Trip. Probably today, in one week, I will be at Letchworth State Park. Starting out the trip at the Fillmore Glen in the Finger Lakes, then two days in the Finger Lakes Region before heading west to Harriet Hollister Spencer State Park and Letchworth. Eventually will end up at the Chautauqua Gorge, and probably head back east via Pennsylvania, possibly on the southern edge of the Pennsylvania wilds, that is after checking out Kinzua Bridge State Park. Should be a lot of fun.

Sunrays Thru Sky

Leaves Only Starting to Come Out Locally. This is despite all the color up north at Moose Plains 3 weeks ago. I am hopeful that the leaves will be at peak by the time I get out to the Finger Lakes. I am sure they will be somewhat past peak by the time I climb up onto the Applachian Plateau, but I doubt they will be turned too much past peak in Chautauqua County.
